Questions CPAs ask us
Straight answers about what NiniTaxBot does, what it doesn't, and how the pilot works.
No. NiniTaxBot doesn't calculate taxes or prepare returns. It eliminates manual data entry at intake: it reads client documents, extracts the data, and puts the data in front of your preparers for review. It is designed to work with Canopy; tax-software exports are coming soon.
The first version is designed to work with the Canopy practice-management platform (in pilot testing): it can sync your client list and bring client files from Canopy into review, then post an approved status note back. Exports for Lacerte, UltraTax CS and Drake are coming soon; NiniTaxBot does not export to them today. If you use something else, choose "Other" on the pilot form and let us know.
Common tax documents such as W-2s, 1099s and K-1s, as PDFs, phone photos or ZIP files, through your firm's secure client portal.
Documents and extracted data are kept in encrypted storage, and each firm's data is isolated from every other firm's at the database level. Pilot firms receive detailed security documentation.
No. Extracted data lands in your firm's review queue, and nothing is sent to Canopy or anywhere else until someone on your team approves it.
Details are shared directly with pilot firms. Request a spot and we'll walk you through them.
The pilot with CPA firms begins in February 2027.
No. NiniTaxBot is not affiliated with or endorsed by Canopy, Intuit, Thomson Reuters or Drake Software. It is designed to work with Canopy (in pilot testing); Lacerte, UltraTax CS and Drake exports are coming soon.
No. The AI classifies documents and extracts values. Every value is shown beside its source document for a person at your firm to check, correct and approve. Judgments about treatment stay with your preparers.
Yes. Clients can upload phone photos as well as PDFs and ZIP files. Clear, flat, well-lit photos are easiest to read and review.
Each firm's data is isolated from every other firm's at the database level. Within a firm, access is limited to that firm's users. Pilot firms receive detailed security documentation describing the architecture.
Your reviewer corrects it in the review queue before approval. Because nothing leaves NiniTaxBot without approval, the review step is where errors are caught.
NiniTaxBot includes a client portal for document upload. The first version is designed to work alongside Canopy rather than replace it: it syncs your client list and brings client files from Canopy into review. How it fits your other tools is something we'll work through with each pilot firm.
Hands-on onboarding for your firm and your client portal, a setup designed to work with Canopy (Lacerte, UltraTax CS and Drake exports coming soon), a direct line to the team for feedback during the season, and the chance to work directly with the founder. Spots are limited.
NiniTaxBot is built by Winthco, founded by Kyle Winther. It is named for Kyle's late father, Nini, who was a CPA.
